How it works, and what it does not do
What the countdown measures
Exactly two numbers that you supply: when the window started, and how long it lasts. The end time is stored as an absolute instant, and every tick recomputes end − now. Nothing is accumulated, so the timer is right after a reload, after the tab was backgrounded for hours, and after the machine wakes from sleep.
The three states
- Running — now is between your start time and your end time. This is the state with the live countdown.
- Not started yet — your start time is in the future. The card counts down to the start instead, and switches to Running on its own.
- Ended — the end time has passed. The card shows how long ago it ended. Use Register again to start a fresh window of the same length without retyping everything.
What you can do with an entry
Register it, edit it, delete it, or copy it into a new window. Several windows can run at once — for example one per provider or per plan — and they are listed by whichever ends soonest. The name is free text, so you decide what each entry refers to.
Input limits, and why
- Window length is entered in whole minutes and must be between 1 minute and 366 days.
- The start time must be within 400 days of today — a wider gap is almost always a mistyped year.
- A start time that does not exist in your time zone (the hour skipped by a daylight-saving change) is rejected instead of silently shifted.
- A window whose end time is already in the past can still be saved; you get a warning, not a block.
- Window lengths over 60 days are accepted but flagged, because they are unusual for the resets people track here.
Time zones and daylight saving
The start time you type is read as wall-clock time in the time zone your device is using at that moment; what gets saved is the resulting absolute instant. If you later travel or change your system time zone, the countdown stays the same and only the displayed clock times shift. Window length is a fixed duration: during a daylight-saving change, a 24-hour window is still 24 hours long, and the wall-clock time it ends at may move by an hour.
The countdown reads your device clock. If that clock is wrong, the countdown is wrong in the same way — we cannot check it against anything else, because nothing leaves the browser.
Where your data lives, and what deletes it
- Your entries are stored in this browser’s local storage, under one key for this site.
- Clearing site data for this domain, using private mode, switching browser, or switching device all mean an empty list.
- There is no sync and no export to an account — the tool has no server to sync through.
What we refuse to tell you
We do not list window lengths, reset times, or reset steps for any provider. Those rules differ by product, plan, and version, and they change; a countdown built on a stale number would be worse than no countdown. Look up the current rule on the provider’s own page or dashboard, then enter it here.
